Christmas Turkey

31 Days of Christmas – Day Thirty

I'm not sure which is the bigger turkey in this image.  My uncle was always cracking jokes, so it could be him.

Colorful 50s Christmas

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-nine

My aunt trying to look nonchalant next to an extremely tall Poinsettia.

Techie Corner
I had to do some restoration on this one.  Color photographs in the 1950s were very expensive and only some of the prints have aged well.  I have some that look pristine, but this one needed help, as you can see from the original below.  Scanned with the Epson V600.

Lord, Make Me an Instrument

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-eight

This is one of my mom's leftover Christmas cards that has donned the outside of a mail caddy for as long as I can remember.  It's something I grew up seeing, but not seeing.  Until today, when I found it in a box.

This old, yellowed and beat-up card with a beautiful message.  It's how my mom tried to live her life and a nice reminder of her at this time of year.

El Gato

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-seven

El Gato was a gift from my 8th & 9th grade Spanish teacher.  Her husband was from Cuba, and, if I remember right, these handmade baked clay ornaments were purchased during one of their trips to Cuba.

Christmas in the 40s

31 Days of Christmas – Day Twenty-six

My grandparents' Christmas tree in the 1940s looks more like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree than something we typically see today.

Scanned with Epson V600.
